Friends of Scituate Library
The Friends of the Scituate Town Library is a volunteer, non-profit organization, advocating a strong public library system and actively supporting the Scituate library.
The Friends believe strongly that libraries are our windows to the world and need all the attention and support we can give.
The Friends provide the library with books, CDs, DVDs, computer software, books on CD, summer reading paperbacks, and underwrite the Book Rental Program of best sellers. The Friends also provides funding for programs and events for children, teens and adults.
The Friends purchase Museum Passes for Scituate residents to use for a minimal fee. Passes are available to New England Aquarium, Children’s Museum, Institute of Contemporary Art, Fuller Craft Museum, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, JFK Library & Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, Plimoth Plantation, Roger Williams Zoo, Science Museum, Franklin Park Zoo & Stone Zoo, and South Shore Natural Science Center.
Find more information on Museum Passes here.
The Friends sponsor two book sales a year – one in January and one in August. A special Sale of Children’s Books is held in late June.
All library users are invited to become members of the Friends of the Scituate Town Library. Membership forms are available at the library or click here for one.
Book donations are gratefully accepted during regular library hours. Please no textbooks, records, encyclopedias and National Geographic magazines. Please understand that books that are moldy, mildewed, food-stained, highlighted or written in, or falling apart, cannot be accepted. Materials stored in basements and garages should be carefully checked for damage before being brought into the library.
Donated materials become the property of Scituate Town Library. Donated materials not selected for the library’s collection by staff are given to the Friends for their semi-annual book sales.
The Friends are looking for volunteers to help sort and shelve donated books and materials. Come join us on Monday mornings as we sort and shelve!
Please call Pat Karsch at 781-545-6672 with any questions.
