How to/Tips/Information:
What is the Old Colony Library Network (OCLN)?
The Old Colony Library Network provides residents of 24 towns in the
South Shore/Southeastern Massachusetts region with an equal opportunity
to access information.
Scituate Town Library card holders are entitled to take out materials
and return them, to and from, any library within the OCLN area. For more
info on the 24 towns in OCLN, click
here. Find out more at the OCLN Website.
What the catalog can do for you:
The OCLN catalog is called iBistro. You can access the catalog at the
Library's computer terminals and from home via the Internet.
iBistro provides:
- Searches
by title, author, subject, type of material
- Current
status, location, format of material
- Holds
on books, cassettes, magazines, etc.
- Automatic
delivery of OCLN intra-library loans of material you place on hold
- Status
of the materials you have out, when they are due, and what you have
on hold
- Note:
The system is unavailable on Friday nights between 6 pm and 12:15am
for system maintenance. Occasionally this will happen
at
other times.
Tips on searching the catalog - it's as easy as 1, 2, 3.
1. in Catalog (over on the top right)
You can chose to search all libraries by selecting ALL or refine your
search by choosing a specific library. Note your default is Scituate.
2. Search For (in the white area)
Type the words, phrase, name, title, author, etc that applies to your
search
3. Across (the dark blue area with labels in white letters)
Click on one of the first three words (Everything, Authors, or Titles)
to direct your search.
Result:
The search results may be a single entry or a list of items, which you
can scroll through.
If
you want to see more information about an item, click on the text "Full
Details" beside the title that you are interested in.
If there are more than 20 items you can select the next page # at the
bottom of the list to see the next 20 items.
If
you want to go back to a previous page use only the iBistro option "Go
Back".
If
you want to try a new search, click on "New Search".
Advanced Search
If you need to further refine your initial search, click on "Switch
to Advanced Search". This will take you to a separate page where
you can enter more selections and then click on "Search". Take
time to explore the options available. If you have questions don't be
afraid to ask for help.

or books on or on CD's. Choose Video Cassette & DVD if you want
movies.

just audio will have (sound recording) in its title.
- DVD's
will often say "widescreen" but not always.
- VHS
videotapes will often say "standard format" but
not always.
- When
you are on the "Full Detail" page
there are 2 place to look for the format. Look at the section marked:
- "Technical details" to show
DVD's, VHS for videos, compact disc for CD.
- "Physical descrip", will
have sound cassette for tapes, sound disc for CD's, videodiscs
